  • Barnes, Magggie Pauline Hinnant
    6 Mar 1882 - 19 Jan 1998
    Born to a former slave, she married a tenant farmer. She had 15 children, eleven who preceded her in death. She lived in Johnston County. She died from complications of a foot infection. There is dispute over her date of birth. The date in 1882 is in the family bible. The 1900 Census gives her year of birth as 1881 and her marriage license as 1880. She is the oldest person from North Carolina. Buried in the Saint Delight OFWB Church Cemetery.

  • Blackburn, Alfred "Teen
    26 Apr 1842 - 8 Mar 1951
    Born a slave on the plantation of the Hampton and Cowles families near Hamptonville in Yadkin County. His mother, Fannie, was a slave and a Cherokee Indian. His father was the plantation owner John Augustus Blackburn. His father was a colonel who served in Company F, 21st North Carolina Infantry and Alfred was listed as his body servant. Alfred's brother Wiley is listed as a body servant in Company B, 38th North Carolina Infantry. Alfred received a pension for his Confederate service. In 1880, he married Lucy Carson and they had ten children. In 1883, he became a mail carrier. He worked for 60 years. He is buried at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkes County.

    Born to Romulus Pettigrew Witherspoon and Melinda "Ellen" Burkett in Friendship Community of Ashe County. Married 1 Dec 1939 Lee Bowers. She died in Jefferson, Ashe County.

    Born near Winston-Salem to John Kenneth Pfohl and Annie Elizabeth Whittington. She was a Dean at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton. She married Edmund Douglas Campbell. She is buried in Salem Moravian God's Acre in Winston-Salem.
